How to tell if a PS3 is backwards compatible

In this video I show you the main differences between a PS3 that is backwards compatible, and another that is not. Both models are considered "Fat" however they are very different in operation. Something to note: All PS3 models are backwards compatible with PS1/PSX games. (I forgot to say so in the video)

You have the standard fan with a massive 7 volts, so the old fan has been unplugged and soldered or plugged into the 12 vol fan then plugged into the connection where the old fan was connected. This connection is only up to 7 volts where the old fan was connected It could be that at some point the fuse in the console breaks because the connection is only designed for 5 or 7 volts
Thanks for the comment. You're right about the supplied voltage, but only the max rating of the board is supplied to the noctua fan, and as a result the noctua fan spins slower than its normal rated rpm. No issues have been seen on my end though, and I have even tried reinstalling the original fan as well.

If you have a PS5 digital with model number CFI-2xxx, then yes you are able to add one of the new detachable disk drives to your console!

Yes, you definitely want to be hearing the clicks since it means that the covers are fully attached.

Does this version of the PS5 allow us to install other covers? Like blue or red? Cause mine doesn't seem 2 fit any holes & I just got it with new covers but they don't seem to be the right ones for this version of the PS5
This model does support alternate colors of the covers, but you must make sure you buy the correct covers. Sony and other vendors still sell covers for the original (larger) PS5 that has very different covers.

This only works for PS5s with model numbers of CFI-20xx. You may have one with model number CFI-1xxx, in which case this method will not work for you at all. Sorry to hear.

I still have my european launch day 60GB PS3 and it's still in working order and it's never been opened. It's the same as this one but as you said, only with the GS in hardware. I even have the complete original box with all manuals and prints in mint condition. How much do you think it's worth?
I think I've asked questions on some other videos you've had on fat PS3's, but not sure if I ever asked you this one, but do you think that the CECHG01 models have just as high of a failure rate as these early backwards compatible models? (CECHA01, B01, E01, etc.) I've seen so many people online complain and say that the G01 is the worst model, and overheats badly, however, it's been the total opposite for me. I have 2 CECHG01 models, both are the quietest PS3 fats I've ever seen. And they stay super cool too. Just wondering what your take on this is.
I do remember those prior questions - keep them coming haha. That's great to hear that you're not having any issues with both of your units. The G model in specific has the updated 65nm Cell (down from 90nm), but unfortunately still uses the 90nm RSX which usually has many failure issues in earlier models. Though, it is possible that those RSX chips, even though they are on 90nm lithography, may have been revised and/or are pulling less power. I'm not sure about that though, so please don't quote me. What I can say for certain is that overall those models use WAY less power than the earlier ones - and I think it's because of the smaller 65nm node on the Cell Processor, among other things. The earlier models A,B,C,E have max 380W power supplies while the G has a max 280W unit - so you can rest assured that the internals are definitely running cooler than any of the earlier models which should result in some better longevity if thinking about it logically.

Does your cover for the hard drive. Does it have gap. Like after you installed it and pushing it tugging it have some play in it? Mine does that after Popping The Cover off and installing it back on. Curious of that normal for slim or not.

@@manifest_congolese9651 yeah i finally ended up getting it to fully snap back into place.
Not changing thermal paste for 10 or even 15 years now doesn not means it wont work like it's intended to.. I have CECHK console and haven't cleaned it or change the thermopaste at all. It is running with no problem now, very quite and efficient, in games it's not going more than 35% fan speed and it's not very hot. My active time is 400 days.

I personally think the A01 while being a great looking and nice machine, is just too much of a risk when it comes to failure points. I’d urge to get an E01 if someone is determined on getting a bc PS3. They tend to have the cooler 226 PSU and the 19 blades fans which helped cool better. Also KEEP YOUR SYSTEM VERTICAL. The ps3 vents most heat from the back and left side, keeping it vertical lets the heat to naturally rise out of the left which can keep the ps3 running 10 degrees cooler.
I find the security seal on the PS5 sold in America curious, which is not marked with the Sony logo unlike the European versions. When I saw this I thought they had opened it or it was a refushed version
Warranty void stickers are actually illegal in the United States as of a few years ago. The stickers still exist in the usual places, but without the warranty text present.

Try doing the exact reverse procedure of taking the cover off, and make sure that you are pressing down somewhat firmly on where the clips lie. Hope this helps!

Proud owner of a CECHC04 and a CECHB00. For whatever reason, the C04 looks better than B00 on PS2 games.
Nice consoles! And yes, in general the emulation backwards compatible PS3s (CECHCxx and CECHExx) have sharper visuals in PS2 games.
I ever saw someone selling at carousell for $8500 In the end I bought a ZAKU II limited edtion case with all the ZAKU II limited edition stuff in it and I am very happy with it.
I was sure I could take it off but after they said they changed the clips and the way they snap on ,I wanted to see for myself before I start doing anything because I just lost my other og ps5 to the Liquid Metal issue
